Responsibilities
You are expected to attend all scheduled classes and
project critiques.
Tardiness after class begins is disruptive and unacceptable.
Student participation is essential. We will critique our work as well
as the work of others in group discussions and make presentations to the class
Exercises or Blog will be checked at the start of class
Adding and Dropping Class-You are responsible for enrollment in this
class.
Overview
of Assignments
All exercises and projects will have specific due dates
which can be found in the SCHEDULE. Late assignments will be receive half credit only if completed on the same day.
Project planning and presentation are very important aspects of design.
Be prepared to discuss your project objectives and how you met them with your
design.
Although we are working in an electronic medium, sketching your layouts,
rough designs and flow of interactive pages is most successful if accomplished
first on paper. You will be required to turn-in these sketches as directed
with each project.
Again, due dates and project timelines must be met.
Grading
Your exercises and projects will be evaluated on several criteria:
Did you meet or exceed the assignment's minimum requirements*
Is your concept creative and does it relflect originality
Does your composition/design demonstrate good design principles
Does your project communicate clearly in content and in site navigation
Have you demonstrated skill with software tools
Have you used CSS and verified both html and css code
Have you demonstrated craftsmanship in your work and presentations
Is your project on time
(there is no excuse for late work) mandatory full grade deduction will be imposed for not having your site up at the start of our critique and projects submitted after the critique will be downgraded one grade for each day it's late.
Exercises: On most days you will have an exercise due. These are clearly specified in the schedule and are always preceeded by a demonstration of the technique or web design skill involved. I expect that the exercise will be linked to its title in your exercise page of your portal. We'll check at the start of class for full credit. Partial credit if posted by end of class. No credit if you miss the daily deadline unless you have a valid med note. I'm serious!
I will often incorporate a "Design Challenge" into the exercises. These exercises will have more potential credit. The challenge will make you think and research an area of web design or a technical skil related to the exercisel. I expect you to solve the challenge on your own.
Blog: I expect your blog to be updated for every class day and reserve the right to check allong with your daily exercises. Blog topic is up to you but it must relate to the web or web design. A link to a site you like is fine but tell us why you like it!
*Note:
If you expect to earn an A in this class you will need to go
beyond the minimum project requirements and clearly demonstrate
exceptional skill. Minimm requirements are listed for each project.
